Wedding photography at The Great House in Sonning

2019 has truly been a fabulous year for me. I've spent the year going through a total re-brand, which has included a change in my shooting and editing style, as well as being shortlisted for an award at the Hitched UK Wedding Awards. I want to start this blog by thanking every single couple that I've worked with in 2019 and look forward to the weddings I have booked in already for 2020.

To finish my 2019 off in style, I was chosen to photograph the wedding of Sam & Rob on Saturday 7th December 2019 at the wonderful Great House in Sonning. I first met Sam and Rob at the beginning of the year before I went through my change in style and I think they really benefited from this.

As always, my day started when I met with my assistant Paul at the venue, for the usual wedding morning ritual of sampling the delight that is breakfast.

Having photographed at many different wedding venues, I can honestly say that having breakfast at the venue beforehand, does provide me with some insight into how the going pan out as venue staff can have a big impact on how the day runs for a wedding photographer. I can honestly say, I was instantly put at ease. The staff at The Great House were superb, extremely welcoming and the breakfast was excellent.

Once we had finished up at breakfast, we moved onto Sams room, to start the day with bridal prep and to grab some detail shots. Sam was really welcoming as were her 2 bridesmaids Antonia and Sarah. Sam already had a glass of champagne in hand and her 2 bridesmaids were more than happy to top this up throughout the morning.

The room itself was quite dark from a photography perspective, so we did find ourselves struggling for light at times, however, the main window to the room was letting in some absolutely stunning light and became the the main area for our bridal portraits, which were absolutely stunning.

The photo opportunities within the grounds of The Great House were gorgeous. Situated on the river in the small village of Sonning. It was extremely cold, so we wanted to make sure we got what we needed before sending Sam and Rob back in to enjoy the rest of their day, whilst getting warm again.

The Great House is an absolutely fantastic wedding venue. I had the most amazing time at this wedding and would absolutely love to shoot at The Great House again. The staff throughout the hotel were superb from start to finish and I would have no hesitation in recommending this venue to couples as their chosen wedding venue. I look forward to being able to photograph another wedding here in the near future.
